Our Curriculum
Early Years Foundation Stage
At Cuddly Bear our curriculum reflects the seven areas of learning set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage. With our under 3s we plan and provide exciting activities that develop children’s learning in all seven areas but particularly promote the Prime areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development.
With our preschool children we continue to create opportunities for development in the prime areas but also begin to focus more on the specific areas of learning: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design in order to prepare children for school.
At Cuddly Bear we see each child as an individual, which is why our key workers use the children’s interests to plan, observe and create activities and provision for each child in their care, including individualised next steps.
Learning through Music
At Cuddly Bear we recognise the importance music plays in children’s development, including their listening, language, social and maths skills. We want to promote a lifelong love of music in our children. We are embedding music into our everyday provision, ensuring that children have access to high quality music sessions, a wide variety of musical instruments and working with music experts. We have partnered with Nicola Burke the creator of “Musical Development Matters” a wonderful music curriculum that compliments the EYFS.
Learning through Art
We are passionate about children learning through art at Cuddly Bear. This is something that you will see as soon as you walk through our doors. We are blessed to have a number of talented artists working in our team who continually inspire our children to use their creative and imaginative skills everyday. Learning through art allows children to develop their language, their imaginations, their understanding of the world around them and their gross and fine motor development. We create an environment where children can explore a wide variety of art including paint, sculpture, drawing, dramatic and expressive art.
Outdoor Learning
We love to learn outside at Cuddly Bear. Each day your child will have access to our outdoor space that will allow them to practise and develop their physical skills. We want our children to be inquisitive and curious about the natural world which is why we treat our garden as an “outdoor classroom” for the children to explore. We also take the children on regular trips and outings in the local area and the wider community including museums and parks.
